Still Hopper time here on the Stone... Won't be long until the streamer fishing starts to heat up.

The Stone has been fishing well the last few days.  Steady action in the valley, and a few big fish being caught down low.  If you love fishing dries on the Stone, the next to weeks are your best chance to catch big fish on hoppers.  The fish are starting to eat big streamers as well now.  White seams to be doing the trick as well as sculpin patterns.

Now really is a great time to fish the Yellowstone since the guided trips begin to slow down and you can still get away with wearing shorts and a t-shirt.  Pretty soon water temperatures will drop (especially in the morning) and wet wading will no longer be as fun (hint:  see our 40% wader sale on our deep deals page).

It won't be long until the sink tip / shooting head season begins.  Now would be a great time to look into an 8 weight streamer rod for the yellowstone.  If you're not quite sure which rod is right for you, please check out our 8 weight shoot out.  In this review you'll find at least a few rods that you'll want to go and cast.  We carry many of the rods tested here at the shop, so don't be shy - come on by and cast your favorite picks and see how the rods feel with your casting stroke.  Everyone is different, so don't worry if you like a rod that wasn't our favorite.  For the Yellowstone, my favorite streamer rod is the G.Loomis Native Run 9'#8 weight 4pc.  Try it, you'll like it!
