Aside from a few windy days, this week's weather looks especially good for baetis dry fly fishing in the valley and some solid streamer fishing through town and below. Several hogs have been caught the last two weeks in prime streamer water. Dead drift if you must, but this is the time of year that fish like to chase a quickly stripped double bunny. For dry fly fishing, focus on the foam eddies with a high-vis-parachute adams. Baetis emergers have been working too...

We've been having better luck on streamers in the evening afterwork. If you get blessed with a cloudy day, the streamer fishing should be good all day long. If you are delt a hand with bright clouds, it would be better to stick with nymphs under an indicator until the evening. We've found that after 5:00PM the light is softer and the fish are more interested in chasing down your favorite streamer pattern. If you get one, send us a photo for our big fish 2007 page!

It's time for a new Streamer Rod!
Now would be a great time to look into an 8 weight streamer rod for the yellowstone. If you're not quite sure which rod is right for you, please check out our 8 weight shoot out. In this review you'll find at least a few rods that you'll want to go and cast. We carry many of the rods tested here at the shop, so don't be shy - come on by and cast your favorite picks and see how the rods feel with your casting stroke. Everyone is different, so don't worry if you like a rod that wasn't our favorite. For the Yellowstone, my favorite streamer rod is the G.Loomis Native Run 9'#8 weight 4pc. Try it, you'll like it!
