Fishing Restrictions Both the Yellowstone River and Yellowstone Park are now "open" again.  The Yellowstone below the Stillwater is still closed after 2:00, and of course you can't fish in the Park before 5:00am or after 10:00pm, but other than that you are free to fish as hard as you want.  There are still a few closures that remain however.  Please feel free to click the links above for more info...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Yellowstone The 2:00 fishing restrictions have been lifted from Gardiner to the Stillwater!  We do have a little mud right now, but several boats are still floating through town today. Looks like the Lamar was clear 8/21 (and fished awesome) so we should have clear water on the way.  Even with the mud, it would be a good option over the upper Madison.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Madison  The last few days have been brutal on the upper Madison... too many people, too few strikes.  Guides have been shaking their heads at the pull outs, comparing notes and saying what the heck was that about!

I think the bottom line this week was that the Yellowstone was muddy, hence everyone headed to the Upper Madison.   The Lower has seen some action lately, but also lots of weeds.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Spring Creeks   The PMD's are still pouring off thick (18's) but we haven't seen much for sulfers anymore.  If you get to the creeks before the hatch goes off, try a combo of midge larva, sparkle scuds, ants, beetles, and mini worms. Also, if you are in the right spot, a small streamer can be absolutely deadly - (better go 2X since those browns have some serious teeth)!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yellowstone National Park The Lamar Valley has been fishing well despite the recent thunderstorms.  The Lamar and Soda Butte have spiked up and are looking muddy, but should clear up by 8/8 (Wednesday).  If you want to fish after 2:00 try looking at Hellroaring Creek, the Yellowstone above 7 mile Hole, Pebble Creek, or the Lamar above Cache Creek...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Local and Private Lakes   Looking for a slam dunk? The private lakes in the area have been unbelievable! The callibaetis hatches are thinning down, but the damsels are dancing and hovering everywhere.   Leeches and scuds have been catching fish as well as a few big lake midge larva patterns. Give us a call to find out where to go

The Bighorn  The Bighorn is seeing the some of the best dry fly fishing they've had in years!  The Black Caddis are coming off around 1:00.  Also look for PMD's and midges.  There are a few baetis around as well, but the fish don't seem to key in on these as much.  If you are throwing nymphs, be sure to bring some pink scuds and sow bugs - they were our best fly...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Missouri  This week is hard to put a finger on for the MO.  Cooler weather is a plus for trout fisherman, but bad news if you going down low for carp.  Sounds like pseudos are the name of the game.  Caddis are pretty much done as are the tricos.  Looks like the wind has blown out some of the smoke as well which is good.

Check in with us in about 2 weeks for more info.

Local Hot Spots   Unfortunately places like these can't take a ton of fishing pressure, so we don't want everyone reading about them on line.  For these places, perhaps it is best to come see us in person.  We can get you a hand drawn map (so long as you agree to burn it) and the flies that are working there. Obviously, some places we all have to take to our graves!
