Fishing Restrictions Since several rivers and streams in our area are now experiencing "Hoot Owl" closures, (restrictions that limit fishing from 2:00 PM to Midnight), we have changed our shop hours to 6:00am to 6:00pm. This should help people get out early and cause less stress on fish. Click the link above for more info on when and where the restrictions apply.

The Yellowstone Finally we got some rain! We'll always take precipitation over a clear river every time. Not only will the mud rest the fish, but it will also kill some of the overgrown weeds since they can no longer photosynthesize - which means when river clears the early morning streamer fishing is back on! When will it clear? Monday is a good guess but it depends on how long the rain continues...

The Madison The Upper Madison has been on fire this week! The only down side is that there has been a lot of people. If you can, get an early or late start to miss the crowds. A tan Fat Albert has been the hot top fly, followed by a caddis dropper or PMD. Rubber leg stone flies are working for the midnight stones. Don't be afraid to cast a few in close to the bank as some larger fish have been holding tight.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Spring Creeks The PMD hatches have been thick this week, with sulfurs starting around 5:00 in the evening. Our tan sparkle scud has been the key lead fly in the morning before the PMD's get going. After stomach pumping a few fish, your #1 one fly should be René Harrop's Olive Short Wing Emerger. Stop by or give us a call for more info. 406-222-7130

Yellowstone National Park The NE part of the park has been fishing superb despite the various afternoon closures. Slough creek, the Lamar, and Soda Butte have had some nice hatches including green drakes, gray drakes, PMD's. We encourage people to get up early and fish hard until noon, then give the fish a rest through the heat of the day. They deserve it.

Local and Private Lakes Looking for a slam dunk? The private lakes in the area have been unbelievable! The callibaetis hatches are thick, the damsels are dancing, not to mention all the leeches and scuds! A lot of BIG fish have been caught this week - quite possibly 20 fish over 20 inches! Give us a call to find out where to go
and what to bring... 406-222-7130

The Bighorn The big horn has been red hot this week. Since we kept getting mixed reports, we decided to get out there ourselves and get the real scoop. Robert, Jimmy, and George floated 3 to 13 and were on the water by 6:00am. They caught several fish on tricos and trico spinners which was nice to hear. They saw some sporadic baetis through out the day but absolutely slayed them on hoppers.

The Missouri The vortex clouds of tricos are going thick now. You'll want to be on the water by 6:00am to catch the best part of the hatch. Fish have been taking PMD spinners and trico spinners before noon. The middle of the day has been slow but you can catch some fish on scuds and a mini san juan. Some of the best fishing has been 1/2 hour before dark with caddis, so try to stay late if possible...
