Fishing Restrictions  Since several rivers and streams in our area are now experiencing "Hoot Owl" closures, (restrictions that limit fishing from 2:00 PM to Midnight), we have changed our shop hours to 6:00am to 6:00pm.  This should help people get our early and cause less stress to fish. Click the link above for more info on when and where the restrictions apply.

The Yellowstone Hot days have made for slower afternoons, but the mornings have been fishing great.   Hoppers, PMD's, trudes, and various attractors have been ripping lips.  We've had good luck with caddis and a #14 Mahogany may fly in the evenings.  Gold Lightning Bug droppers have been hot.   Did you hear about the 31 inch brown caught last week?

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Madison This has been a strange year for the upper Madison.  It seems like they are playing with the flows more than they have in the past.  Just recently they dropped it again from about 2000 cfs to 1460.  Bring some anatomay bead head nymphs, a trude, or a hot wing elkhair caddis for the evening.  Don't bother fishing the lower unless your head is off the pillow by 4:00am and plan to quit by 8:00.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Spring Creeks   The PMD hatches have been thick this week, with sulfurs starting around 5:00 in the evening.  Our tan sparkle scud has been the key lead fly in the morning before the PMD's get going.   After stomach pumping a few fish, your #1 one fly should be René Harrop's Olive Short Wing Emerger.  Stop by or give us a call for more info.  406-222-7130

Yellowstone National Park  The NE part of the park has been fishing superb despite the various afternoon closures.  Slough creek, the Lamar, and Soda Butte have had some nice hatches including green drakes, gray drakes, PMD's.  We encourage people to get up early and fish hard until noon, then give the fish a rest through the heat of the day.  They deserve it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Local and Private Lakes   Looking for a slam dunk? The private lakes in the area have been unbelievable! The callibaetis hatches are thick, the damsels are dancing, not to mention all the leeches and scuds! A lot of BIG fish have been caught this week - quite possibly 20 fish over 20 inches!   Give us a call to find out where to go

                                and what to bring...  406-222-7130

The Bighorn  Reports from the horn have been very good.  We've had mixed reports on PMD's and caddis.  Most anglers have been catching fish on small black emergers or nymphs.  A Ray Charles with a midge nymph dropper has been always been good this time of year.   A few guides are already throwing hoppers with decent success.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Missouri  The vortex clouds of tricos are going thick now.  You'll want to be on the water by 6:00am to catch the best part of the hatch.  Fish have been taking PMD spinners and trico spinners before noon.  The middle of the day has been slow but you can catch some fish on scuds and a mini san juan.  Some of the best fishing has been 1/2 hour before dark with caddis, so try to stay late if possible...

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Big Hole The upper 19 miles of the Big Hole (from Rock Creek Bridge to the mouth of the North Fork of the Big Hole) has a 24 hour mandatory fishing closure.  The remaining 137 miles is still open and fishing quite well. The bigger browns have moved out of their deep holes and into the riffles to get more oxygen.  A hopper is a great way to catch these hogs...
