Our famous hand tied compound leaders, designed by George Anderson

Presentaion and accuracy are the keys to catching fish, and these leaders simply outperform any of the knotless leaders on the market. By tying this leader in sections, we utilize clear Maxima for the butt and mid sections, and softer, stronger co-polymer materials like Umpqua or Rio for the tippet sections. The stiffer butt and mid sections allow any angler to cast tighter loops with far more accuracy than knotless leaders. The knots are rarely a problem, only when you are fishing in extremely mossy or slimy conditions - even so we'd rather have the moss on our knots, than our fly. These are relatively stiff leaders so you need to stretch them once after you rig up to get them nice and straight. We tie these with a perfection loop at the butt end, which make them easy to "loop to loop" to your butt section. We have been offering these leaders here in our shop for over 29 years, making slight changes in materials and tippets as technology improves. You simply won't find a better casting leader anywhere - if you do, we'd love a sample!

Streambase Hot Butt Leader

Our famous hand tied compound leaders, designed by George Anderson for high stick nymphing.

Our Hot Butt leaders are tied with 30, 25, and 15 pound Amnesia butt sections for the ultimate in hi-vis turnover. While not quite as stiff as the 30 pound Maxima used in our clear butt leaders, the hot butt leaders will cast better into the wind and form tighter loops than any knotless leaders out there. If you love nymph fishing, you'll love this leader. Unless you're fishing straight up stream, you don't need to add a strike indicator to this leader. Simply hold your rod up high, follow your fly with your rod through the run, and watch the red hot Amnesia sections of your leader. You'll be able to notice strikes that were near impossible to see before. If you see your leader slow down or make a quick jerk - set the hook! (If it's not a fish, you can always turn your strike into a hard back cast and plop your flie(s) back in there...

Streambase Permit Leader Designed by George Anderson

Permit Leaders are designed for positve turnover, precise accuracy, and the ability to turn over bulky Permit flies.

Once you try our Permit leaders, it will be tough to go back to what you have used in the past! George Anderson has designed these leaders after many years of experience using Mason's Hard Nylon for the butt and mid sections. This compound construction allows an angler to cast tighter loops than ever before, drive a Permit fly through 15-20 knot winds, and deliver it with extreme accuracy. We utilize Seaguar's GrandMAX fluorocarbon for the last two sections, and the 02X tippet section is the strongest fluorocarbon we've tested, at 20 lb. test. We tie in the tippet with a Stu Apte improved blood knot to give you close to 100% knot strength. When you break off, you will usually break off at your fly, and not lose the whole tippet. We tie these Permit leaders 12 feet long to give you the best chance to catch spooky Permit. Our 12 foot compound leader with heavy butt section, will turn over a Permit Crab better than any knotless 9 foot leader.

Bonefish Leaders designed to turn over in the hardest winds, yet deliver extreme accuracy. Seaguar GrandMAX Fluorocarbon tippets for the ultimate in strength, stealth, and abrasion resistance.

This compound construction allows an angler to cast tighter loops than ever before, drive a bonefish fly through 15-20 knot winds, and deliver it with extreme accuracy. We utilize Seaguar's GrandMAX fluorocarbon for the last two sections, and the 1X tippet section is the strongest fluorocarbon we've tested, at 14.5 lb. test. We tie in the tippet with a Stu Apte improved blood knot to give you close to 100% knot strength. When you break off, you will usually break off at your fly, and not lose the whole tippet. We tie these bonefish leaders 12 feet long to give you the best chance to catch spooky bones. Our 12 foot compound leader will turn over better than any knotless 9 foot leader.

Quick Change Tarpon Leader

Tied to perfection by the Yellowstone Angler staff in Livingston Montana!

These leaders designed by George Anderson, are the best Tarpon leaders around. We make these out of 20# Hard Mason, for the class tippet, and super tough 80# Seaguar flourocarbon for the shock tippet. Seaguar Flourocarbon is the best shock tippet available. It is very supple, nearly invisible and extremely abrasion resistant. We make the shock tippet 30", so you can change flies many times on one leader. The longer shock tippet also gives you an advantage while fighting big tarpon, unless you want to try to break an IGFA record, then your shock tippt needs to be much shorter. If you want to make this a legal IGFA leader, just trim the long shock tippet and tie your fly on so that there is no more than 12" of shock tippet from the fly to the end of the Slim Beauty knot. The class section is 15"-16" and is already IGFA legal. Every leader is tied with Slim Beauty, to connect Shock & Class Sections, and a Bimini twist, with a doubled-over and spun quick change loop. Want to change a leader or a fly really fast? These Quick Change Leaders make switching just a matter of a few seconds. We test every leader, so you are assured a very dependable leader.
