Boron IIx Fly Rods

A wonderfully light all around rod!
When you pick up a BIIx, you'll be amazed at how light the rod is, and once we get out on the water and do some fishing, it will put a smile on your face!  The Boron II technology allows Winston to build an extremely light rod that is a joy to cast all day.  The popular 9 foot #5 rod feels like a 3 weight in your hand!   With their softer tips, these rods do a great job of protecting light tippets.  Fishing 6X and even 7X is no problem. These are faster action rods with good power in the butt and mid-sections that allows you to throw long when you need to, and have plenty of beef for playing big fish. The color is that beautiful Winston emerald green we've come to love. The craftsmanship is typical Winston and superb.   All are four-piece rods for easy traveling.  Our favorites have been the 8 1/2 foot #4, the 9 foot #5, and the 9 foot #7.

Winston WT Fly Rods

A masterpiece rod for all time
The WT rods were designed by master angler and rod maker Tom Morgan.  Tom wanted rods that would perform best at shorter distances where accuracy and presentation are the key to catching fish.   These were one of the first rods to utilize more powerful butt and mid-sections yet have softer tips to protect light tippets.  They are still one of the finest casting rods in existence today and offer wonderful touch and feel.    Tom's favorite (the TMF) is an 8 foot rod for a #4 line but it loads strongly with a 4 and is a superb small stream rod. The 8 1/2 foot #5 has always been a benchmark rod against which we've judged other 5 line rods.  The Joan Wulff Favorite (JWF)is patterned on this rod but with a smaller grip for ladies.

LT 5-Piece Fly Rods

Superb casting medium-fast action rods

The LT rods have always been some of our favorites.  These smooth rods have softer tips and are slightly faster and crisper in action that the WT rods.  They utilize a spigot ferrule design that gives these rods such a nice one-piece action and feel.  Excellent accuracy at short to medium fishing distances make these some of our very best rods for the average caster.  The five-piece design makes them perfect traveling companions - especially the 8 foot 3 inch #4 rod.  These are lovely rods to cast and a joy to fish.

Joan Wulff & Tom Morgan Favorites

!
Unique rods from great anglers!
The Joan Wulff Favorite rods are designed especially for women.   They have a smaller sized grip that has a dished out thumb rest, that is quite comfortable and keeps your hand in the exact right spot to balance and power the rod.   The 8 1/2' rod is perfect for most gals and a very versatile rod with the WT action.   The larger JWF rod, a 9 foot 8 weight, is a light-weight BIIx, and the perfect ladies bonefish rod.  The Tom Morgan Favorite is a great, light action spring creek rod from the WT series.  It is 8 feet in length, but designed to load very well with a #4 line.  This rod is a good half line size softer than Winston's normal #4 rods.  Ideal for casting accurately at shorter distances with small flies and fine tippets.

Boron II-MX Fly Rods

A powerful, fast action rod for both fresh and saltwater!

MX stands for maximum, as in maximum power, for distance casts and fish fighting capabilities.  They are stiffer and faster than their Boron IIX counterparts.  If you need a cannon of a rod for long distance casting, big bugs, and windy conditions, the Boron II-MX is a great choice.  Your choice of cigar or full wells grip on the 5 and 6 weights, with full wells and fighting butts on the 7-12 weight rods.   All models feature a Featherlight Nickel Anodized aluminum reel seat.  Winston wanted to design a rod with the power of Sage's old XP and they got it right.  We find them a bit stiff though in the smaller line sizes, and most anglers will like them with one size heavier line.

BIIx Spey Rods

Extremely light, great casting spey rods!
These new Boron IIX Spey rods are simply incredible.   The Boron butt sections make them very light in weight for a Spey Rod, yet they are one of the smoothest casting Spey Rods we've tried.  Working with Spey guru Andre Scholz,  Winston's rod designer Sam Drukman came up with these incredible rods.  These rods are making many converts in the salmon and steelhead crowd with their amazingly light weight and smooth casting performance.   Our favorite, and the best all around Spey rod is the 14'  8/9 line model.   If you can only own one rod to play the two handed Spey fishing game, this is it!
