                Hot Spring Fishing!

If you want an honest answer on when is the best time to come to Montana to fish it's the Spring.  The fish on the yellowstone are mowing down midges daily and on warm, cloudy days they are chomping on baetis.  The streamer fishing is also better than any other time of the year, (the the possible exception of the fall).  Still, the majority of monster 30 inch browns have all been caught in the spring.  The creeks are fishing incredible with midges, baetis, caddis, scuds, leeches, and sculpin.  The ice is off the lakes and the fish are looking for decent meal.  Plus, once you've caught the Mother's Day Caddis hatch, we're confident that you'll be back for more of the single most underrated fishing of the year!

March and April have always produced some of the best fishing of the year. Ask any local what their favorite time of year to fish is and 9 times out of 10 their reply will be in the Spring.   (Go ahead and try it)!  Their answer is that way for a lot of good reasons.  For the most part, the weather is nice and sunny.  As the water temperatures begin to rise, aquatic insects start to stir about and the trout are on the prowl!   Most of these fish haven't seen a fly for months and are quick to gobble up dry flies, nymphs, or streamers.  Pods of trout that are actively feeding on midges will gobble up a size 12 Trude!  Once the Mother's Day Caddis hatch hits the river, we'll enjoy the very best dry fly fishing of the year.   If the river gets dirty, you can always fish black streamers, or even better - fish the Spring Baetis hatches on the Spring Creeks.  This time of year is also one of the best times to get on a private lake - so there's really no risk of runoff ruining your trip.

We've always encouraged anglers to come out in the Spring, and the few that do have always left with a smile - a smile that not only reflects great fishing, but also a feeling of being in the loop.  We hope you'll join this "insiders loop" and see why everyone is having so much fun...
