The Yellowstone Aside from a few windy days, this week's weather looks especially good for baetis dry fly fishing in the valley and some solid streamer fishing through town and below.  Several hogs have been caught the last two weeks in prime streamer water.  Dead drift if you must, but this is the time of year that fish like to chase a quickly stripped double bunny.  For dry fly fishing, focus on the foam eddies with a high-vis-parachute adams.  Baetis emergers have been working too...

The Madison We've had some great reports from both the lower and upper Madison this week.  Streamers have been at the top of the menu - especially if you're wading from Varney to Ennis in one of the many side channels.  Crayfish patterns or Bow River Buggers are working well on the lower.  Also look for BWO hatches if these clouds stick around - could be dry fly heaven if there is no wind...

The Spring Creeks Great Baetis reports from this week.  The sight fishing has been awesome, although the best success has been "white mouthing" these fish with small nymphs or baetis emergers.  With less people fishing and colder weather, the streamer fishing has picked up dramatically - you no longer have to skip dinner to streamer fish!

Yellowstone National Park With the incoming weather lots of people are headed to West Yellowstone this week, which leaves the Lamar, Soda Butte, and lower Slough wide open.  There have been some bears around so bring some pepper spray if you fish the Lamar Valley.  Look for thick BWO hatches as well as green and grey drakes.

Local and Private Lakes   Seems like people tend to forget about lakes this time of year - which is great for those who love to fish them.  This is the best time and opportunity to get that big brown photo you've been waiting for!  Or if you are looking for serious numbers of trout, this is your best chance at a unforgettable day...

The Bighorn Ahh... it's time to cast and blast!  The lower river has a fair amount of weeds to deal with, but has been fishing awesome with baetis patterns and small black midge patterns.  Bring a few black caddis but stock up for baetis and midges.  Also the streamer fishing this time of year is often too hard to pass up.  Some of the lower river browns will begin heading up stream so be ready!

The Missouri   The MO is finally back on fire.  A lot of bigger fish have been caught this week, even upwards of 24 inch browns.  The baetis should be on the water so look for noses and pods, but also have a streamer rod rigged for the real hogs.  If you feel like nymphing go small.  Throw on a Ray Charles or SJW for a lead fly followed by a technical baetis or midge dropper.

Local Hot Spots   Places like these can't take a ton of fishing pressure, so we don't post these on line.   For these places, it is best to come see us in person.  We'll give you a hand drawn map to a special place and check your fly box to see if you need anything that's been working.  These spots are off the beaten path and have the average fish size of 12-16 inches, with a few bigger migratory browns...
