Josh Edwards at it again... Photo: Marcus McGuire

The Yellowstone has been hit or miss the last few days, (surprise, surprise).  The good news is that the “w”  has let up a little, (knock on wood) hence the midge dry fly fishing has improved drastically.  If you are looking for better dry fly action the valley is a good bet.  Look for slower water – deep slow runs, foam eddies, and inside riffle corners.  For streamers, town or below has been better.  Black is still the leading bugger color for us, although we’ve seen some big flashes and refusals on white or tan.  Currently there is very little ice out there, but with night temperatures reaching the teens you never know.  Looks like good cloud cover and more snow for the weekend, should be good fishing but bring a warm hat and some neoprene gloves, it’s going to be chilly…
