Turns out the Farmer’s Almanac has been right – we have had a hot, dry summer so far in July. To beat the heat, the shop is now open 6:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday and 7:00AM to 5:00PM on weekends. There are no hoot-owl restrictions on the Yellowstone, although there are some on other SW Montana rivers, click here for FWP’s list of current restrictions. The fishing has been decent, especially for experienced anglers that can pull off all of the tricks. It has been a little tough for everyone else but some nice fish have been getting caught. In general, it feels like the fish bite has been slowing down around 3:00PM. Water temps have been hovering 63-70 degrees. Nocturnal stones and hoppers have been working. Caddis, sallies, pmds, sulphurs, and flying ants are also good options. The Spring Creeks, YNP, and mountain streams have been cooler and fishing well. Give us a call to book a trip 1-406-222-7130.
