I really like the way this rod casts about as well as the Aetos. If anything it has a little faster action than the Aetos and this gives it a nice feel in tight. Both of these Fenwick rods are pleasant to cast and are hard to beat for the money. I like the cosmetics on the HMG too – This rod has a nice flat, non-glare finish in dark graphite gray color, and they use dark brown wraps on the guides.
On the butt section, the wraps are trimmed with orange wire, which looks nice. A Western style grip is used along with a gray anodized aluminum uplocking reel seat. Guides are one SiC with the rest nice thin wire black snake guides, which look great on this rod. So there are a few drawbacks but it’s a heck of a rod for $159.95.
