The Douglas DXF was one of the standout mid-priced rods in our 2019 4wt Shootout. It’s an incredibly responsive and accurate 4wt. The Douglas DXF features an easy loading yet the sharp recovering blank design that gives easy access to user-friendly high performance at an affordable price.
We’ve paired the DXF with one of our favorite reels, the Galvan Rush Light (R-4). It’s a great choice for Mid Priced Outfit, giving the angler an extremely durable, great looking reel that has a huge range of drag adjustments and quality materials at an affordable price.
We found that using the Scientific Anglers Infinity WF-4-F line was the perfect match for the Douglas DXF. The Infinity taper is a half-line size heavy, but has a much longer front taper than the MPX, making it a great line for dry fly presentations. The SA Infinity taper line comes in three line coatings, so we are LETTING YOU CHOOSE between the Mastery Infinity ($79.95), the Amplitude Smooth Infinity, ($99.95), or the Amplitude Infinity, ($129.95). The Mastery Infinity utilizes Scientific Angler’s original smooth coating which can’t be heard going through the guides. The Amplitude Smooth Infinity utilizes SA’s new smooth coating, which is also silent while casting with the added benefits of AST plus, giving the line up to five times less drag and eight times the durability of traditional lines. The Amplitude Infinity is our go line with all the benefits of the Amplitude Smooth Infinity with the edition of microscopic “golf ball dimples” cut in the line to give the line less friction through the guides and on the water’s surface. While the Amplitude Infinity will make a little noise going through your guides it will not be as loud as the old “shark skin” and will not burn your skin should a big fish take off on you.
We’ve also included aYellowstone Angler hand-tied leader for greater turnover and accuracy and all the backing that you’ll need to get on the water. Everything will be rigged and ready to fish, all you’ll need to do is choose which fly to tie on!
