Gary Edwards pulled streamers all day - Pay off! Photo: Paul Bloch

Fishing on the Yellowstone has been fairly consistent this week.  There hasn’t been much for dries (a few midges and some small #18-20 baetis).  For the most part we’ve been throwing streamers and on the bright days resorting to nymphs.  Some nice rainbows have been getting caught in places that you’d expect to find browns (rip-rap banks, deep holes, ect.)  The browns are either on their spawning beds or in the wave trains adjacent to them, where they can take cover on the brighter days before going back to the redds in lower light.  For streamers black has been hard to beat although we’ve seen some action on white and yellow as well.

This weekend will be the last call for those going into the park.  Sunday, November 1st will be the last day of the season.  In the past we’ve caught some great baetis hatches on the Firehole although most folks will be headed for the Madison.  Get out there and give it a shot, this weekend looks like good weather for a big one!

The spring creeks have been fishing well lately as well.  The creeks have been seeing some very small baetis (#20-22) as well as some midge activity mid-day.  Winter rates are now in effect ($40 per rod) so it is a good chance for locals and traveling anglers alike to enjoy a day on a beautiful stretch of water.  Give us a call if you’d like to book a rod or a guide and we’ll hook you up!  406-222-7130.
