With visibility at almost two feet on the Madison, the surface action with Salmonflies has become quite good. The big bugs should be up to palisades by today. While the fish are looking up at a more consistent rate, fishing underneath will provide with the best shot at numbers. Big black bugs, such as the pat’s rubberlegs or delektable stoners fished close to the bank, twitched or dead drifted will get you bent.
Golden Stones are also starting to come out as well as yellow sallies. If you are looking to avoid the floatilla chasing the salmonflies fish below story ditch and you will have the place to yourself.
We are still almost two weeks out on the Yellowstone. As far as the smaller freestone streams and rivers go we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Stay tuned…….
