Everyone at the shop loves this rod. It is super light, accurate, and has ample power, but most of all, it oooozes soul. Getting a rod to cast accurately is one thing; giving it that special Zen-like feel is extremely difficult, and Scott gets an A+ for effort in the soul department. Give this rod a try and we think you'll agree. The cork reel seat and slide band may not be for everyone (if not look at the Scott G 8'4"#3 with an uplock reel seat), but it does allow the caster to gain an extra dimension when it comes to feeling the rod flex through the grip. 

Deflection-wise, you see the Scott G 7'7" is on the softer side (it's the gray color, 5th up from the bottom). If you are looking for a rod to battle the wind or perform well at 40 feet you'll want to look elsewhere. But if you are looking for one of the sweetest performing 3-weights at 20-30 feet this rod is a gem, and likely to become a "cult classic" some day.

We matched the Scott G Series 7'7"#3 with our favorite inexpensive 3-weight reel, the Orvis Battenkill Click II. (And a what a match it is with the brown trim wraps of the Scott G and the matte bronze finish on the Battenkill Click II)!  This reel is fully machined and utilizes a click a pawl drag. The classic style fits well on a 3-weight fly rod, (especially the classic style of the Scott G 7'7"#3), and since you'll be targeting smaller fish, you won't need a strong drag. If you want to put more pressure on the fish, simply palming the reel works quite efficiently.
