George Anderson
Owner

George is the owner of the Yellowstone Angler here in Livingston, Montana. He started his fly-fishing career in the Catskill Mountains of New York but refined it the Rocky Mountain West while attending the University of Colorado and working summers in West Yellowstone Montana, managing a tackle shop there for the Eagles. After graduating from CU’s business school, George and his wife moved to Livingston Montana where George worked as assist. Manager for Dan Bailey’s for six years before opening The Yellowstone Angler in the fall of 1979. In 1985 the “new” shop was built where it exists today, a half-mile south of Livingston on Highway 89.
Over the years George has written many fly fishing articles that have appeared in Fly Fisherman, Trout, Big Sky Journal, Saltwater Fly Fishing, and several Scientific Anglers publications. In 1989 and 1990 George won top individual honors at the Jackson Hole One-Fly in the only two years he fished in the event, setting records for numbers of trout caught on his own George’s Rubber Legged Brown Stone nymph. In addition, he has appeared as a guest angler on many television fly fishing shows like John Barrett’s “Fly Fishing the World”, and saltwater angling shows like Jose Wejebe’s “Spanish Fly” catching big tarpon in the Florida Keys. With Trevor Gowdy, George was the guest angler for two ESPN shows that were filmed in Cuba’s Jardines de la Reina, flats fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit.
George’s love of saltwater fly-fishing has led to arranging and hosting saltwater trips each year with friends to various destinations in the Caribbean. George also hosts trout fishing trips each year to Alaska, Argentina, and other world-class destinations. When he’s not fishing he enjoys golf, alpine skiing, scuba diving, bird hunting, and riding bikes.
James Anderson (Jamie)
General Manager & Oufitter (License #8969)

James, or “Jamie”, was born and raised in Livingston, MT. As a teenager he grew up fishing, hunting, riding dirt bikes, but it was ski racing that eventually took him to Vermont. James graduated from Middlebury College with a bachelor’s degree in Chinese language and culture with a minor in Economics. He spent a few years in China and Taiwan, working in the import/export business. Upon moving back to the US he lived in Dallas (where he worked at a Thai restaurant) and in San Diego (where he worked at Barona Casino as a dealer). The rivers and mountains brought him back to Montana, where he is now the general manager, part-owner, and the outfitter for the Yellowstone Angler (Montana Outfitter number #8969). He has hosted fly fishing trips to AK, Argentina, Belize, Mexico, and Iceland. When James isn’t in the shop or on the water he enjoys spending time with his family.
Logan Brown

Logan is our guide booking manager. He was born and raised in Longmont, Colorado. His addiction to fly-fishing started in high school with frequent trips to Rocky Mountain National Park. The St.Vrain River and some high alpine lakes were at the top of his backyard fishing list. In 2005, Logan moved to Montana to pursue a degree in Political Science from MSU in Bozeman. During his four years at MSU Logan traveled all over the state, exploring all the amazing fisheries this state has to offer. If you have a question about a blue ribbon stream or main river Logan will know where to go, when to go, and what to use. However, Good luck getting him to talk about his favorite smaller waters. While attending MSU he took a semester abroad and traveled on a month-long road trip across Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey.
He’s fished for a variety of saltwater and freshwater species and is knowledgeable about both freshwater and saltwater tackle and flies. Logan has been working in professional kitchens for 10 years prior to joining Yellowstone Angler, so if you need a restaurant/food recommendation Logan is your guy! When Logan is not on the water he is likely enjoying the outdoors with his wife Leah and son Arlo. He is also is an avid “knuckle dragger” at Bridger Bowl. In addition to being our guide booking manager, Logan is also responsible for the majority of the big fish landed by our shop staff.
Joe Sherman
Sales Associate / Guide

Joe was born and raised in the Adirondack mountains of upstate NY where he learned to fly fish. After serving in the US Navy and graduating from college, (and law school) he relocated to the Atlanta area. He spent more than 20 years in corporate America before trading in the office for Big Sky country and moving to Montana to pursue his passion for fly fishing and the outdoors. Joe loves guiding in Yellowstone Park, where he has perfected the art of the “hike and strike,” taking clients to waters seldom seen or fished. When not in the shop or on the water he can be found somewhere outdoors hunting, hiking or skiing.
Ken Phillips

Ken started fishing in the late 70’s for steelhead on the Pere Marquette river. Not long after he discovered dry fly fishing on the Au Sable River near Grayling, Michigan. Since then, Ken has spent a lifetime pursuing the sporting lifestyle, both fly-fishing and upland bird hunting. He is a romantic when it comes to classic fly rods, reels, shotguns, and all things representative of the field and stream lifestyle. Ken spent 35 years in corporate America but now spends his time along side the Yellowstone river with his beautiful wife and family.
Ryan Mincey
Sales Associate
Ryan was born and raised in Knoxville, TN, where he learned to fly fish in The Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding East TN tailwaters such as the Clinch River, South Holston River and Watauga River. His love for fly fishing started when he was a young teenager and moved from his local lake where he grew up bass fishing and was forced to find a new way to fish. He decided to take on fly fishing and go straight to the stream – and hasn’t looked back since! He enjoys anything from stillwater fly fishing, dry fly fishing, or hucking streamers. He is an avid fly tier, who ties for a variety of fish species such as trout, smallmouth bass, and musky. Ryan is also a part-time student at The University of Tennessee studying Communications. If he’s not seen working or fishing, he’s likely spending time with his black lab Ryder.
James Melin
Sales Associate
James is a homegrown, lifelong Livingston resident, hailing from Park County's storied Melin family, who have been in Southwestern Montana since the early 1880's. Growing up on the Yellowstone, James is no stranger to the art of fly fishing, spending summers angling on his grandparent's riverfront property in Paradise Valley. James joined the Yellowstone Angler as a Junior in high school, and has been a regular summer employee ever since. James knows the shop like the back of his hand is knowledgable about the waters we fish, (particularly what to use and when). When he's not in the shop, James enjoys watching (and playing) football, soccer, and basketball. He also enjoys cooking, camping, and traveling with his family. You'll enjoy James' sense of humor as he lightens up the shop mood and is regularly cracking jokes. James is set to leave on a 2-year mission for the LDS Church soon, but is sure to return to the shop in any capacity, even a loyal customer.
