Snow water equivalent for the upper Yellowstone right now is sitting at 95%.  Knock on wood, but we could finally get a “normal” year.  If the weather keeps up with the status quo, we should be able to fish Salmonflies on the Yellowstone the last week of June.  What about mothers’s day caddis?  Some people think it will not be a huge hatch due to scouring from last year’s flood.  I guess we’ll see what late April / early March brings us, but I don’t really mind one way or the other – it’s either going to be fantastic dry fly fishing, or the best times to fish streamers on the Stone.  Hopper season should go right through September, with almost no chance of “hootowl closures.”
