Yellowstone National Park Fishing Report

While the general fishing season remains closed, certain sections on the Gardner and Madison rivers remain open to fishing in the Park year round.
The season opener for the Firehole, Gibbon, and Madison is now May 1st.
The main season opener is still Memorial day weekend, this year being Saturday, May 23rd.
We sell Park Licenses at the shop, or you may also purchase a YNP fishing license online here.
Keep an eye on the CFS chart for the Gardner. With the variable weather, (from the 40's and snow to sunny and 69) conditions will be variable this week.
There have been decent midge and baetis hatches on the Gardiner and just recently, some caddis sightings. The baetis have been pretty big (#16-18). We probably won't see caddis again until Friday or the weekend.
If the clarity is off, nymph fishing (with baetis nymphs) has been very good, or if get gets very dirty you can try throwing a small streamer as well.
On the other side of the park, larger fish can be found on the lower section of the Madison. The section that remains open year round is from the Barns Holes down to the HWY 191 bridge (near Hebgen Lake). This section is fun to swing streamers for resident fish as well as potential lake fish moving up.
