Yellowstone River Fishing Report
CFS: 1260
Clarity in Gardiner (Sunday at 8:15AM)
Temps in the 70's last week have caused some lower elevation snow melt, causing the Lamar (and Yellowstone) to rise and be off color. This likely means streamers will be your best bet. It's a little browner than we'd prefer, but clarity should improve as next weeks temps drop into the 60's and 50s. The Lower Madison is a touch off color as well, but still looks green and good.
If the winds do calm down midges have been hatching in specific areas. We haven't seen any baetis dries yet (except on the Spring Creeks), but baetis nymphs are brewing. Many anglers have been fishing streamers and catching some nice fish in the 18-20" class. From now until runoff is a great time to target larger fish, someone is bound to catch one and it will likely go to those who put in the time - might as well be you!
