Yellowstone River Fishing Report

Check your wind reports this week! Forecasts are calling for consistent 20-25 mph winds and gusts as high as 45-50 during the day and 60-70 mph at night. You definitely don't want to get stuck floating the river in dangerous wind conditions as drift boats can flip. If you do get caught in dangerous winds, your best is to pull over and try to wait out the storm.
When the winds do calm down midges have been hatching in specific areas. We haven't seen any baetis dries yet but baetis nymphs are a good fly to try, either behind a rubber leg or as a lead nymph followed by a zebra midge. Many anglers have been fishing streamers and catching some nice fish in the 18-20" class. From now until runoff is a great time to target larger fish, someone is bound to catch one and it will likely go to those who put in the time - might as well be you!
