Yellowstone River Fishing Report - 3/25/26

March 25, 2026

Yellowstone River Fishing Report
CFS: 2120

Clarity above Carter's (Wed 3/25 at 8:09 AM)

Again, clarity was a little better this morning than it was yesterday.  We may see another rise with expected temps hitting 68 and 73 tomorrow.  Thursday and Friday temps drop into the 40's and 50's, but then it's back up into the 60's and 70's this weekend. Keep an eye on the CFS and try to catch a dropping river if you can. The river is still pretty low, so if it's muddy and you can't see, it's best to avoid the shallows or hitting any obstructions or jagged rocks just under the surface.

It's a little browner than we'd prefer, but clarity should improve as next weeks temps drop into the 60's and 50s. The Lower Madison is a touch off color as well, but still looks green and good, they Yellowtone is more olive to brown still.

If the winds do calm down midges have been out in full force (in specific areas). We haven't seen many baetis dries yet (except on the Spring Creeks), but from flipping rocks, baetis nymphs are certainly brewing.

Many anglers have been fishing streamers and catching some nice fish in the 18-20" class. From now until runoff is a great time to target larger fish, someone is bound to catch one and it will likely go to those who in the work - might as well be you!
