Don't forget to bring your windbreaker...

Wind has by far been the biggest deterrent for fishing the Yellowstone lately.  With steady winds around 55 mph and gusts up to 70 mph, floating the Yellowstone can be regrettable.  The next couple days are calling for rain / (snow above 4600 ft) and a little less wind (23-29 with gusts up to 38 mph).  We still recommend wade fishing with a switch or two handed rod, as floating in these conditions can be very dangerous, even for expert rowers.  It’s been too windy for any kind of midge dry fly action, (even getting a perfect drift is difficult with winds around 30mph).  Plan on throwing streamers.  Just about any color will work, the key seems to be getting deep.
