Typically in late September we get some overcast days with a mix of Fall baetis and Hecuba coming off. This year however, the weather has remained sunny for the most part, making ants and hoppers the primary choice for dry flies. Looks like more bright days ahead so stock up on size 10-12 hoppers and crickets and size 16-18 black or cinnamon flying ants. The good news is when the clouds finally do roll in, there will be a plethora of backed up bugs on the water. If you’re looking ahead start picking up some Hecuba drakes, Purple Haze, Fall Mohoganies, Parachute adams, and wulff attractors.
