Holden Russell with a nice brown from the Stone… Photo: Logan Brown

Clarity today in town is definitely a little dirtier than yesterday. The hydrologic prediction is calling for a rise in CFS over the next few days but dropping by the Friday 6/26. There are no signs of big bugs on the Stone yet, but possibly by this weekend depending on how cold and rainy things get on Thursday. In the meantime, other rivers in SW Montana are a better bet for chasing salmonflies. Give us a call if you’d like to book a trip! 1-406-222-7130.

Predicted flows for the Yellowstone this week…
Guy Thomas with a pretty Nelson’s Brown caught on a PMD

The PMD’s popped early this year on the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks. The hatches have been weather dependent, but on cloudy days with a little less wind numbers have been plentiful. The PMD’s have been the larger ones, Ephemerella infrequens, (#14-18). We have also heard of some small, pale baetis on the creeks as well (#18-22). The meat of the hatch has been coming off around 11:00 or so and lasting until 2:00 with spinner falls starting around 7:00 if the wind doesn’t pick up. Rods are very difficult to obtain this time of year but cancellations do happen. Give us a call if you’d like to book a trip and we’ll see if it is a possibility. 1-406-222-7130.
