Slush Ice has become pretty standard the past week…

As with many winters on the Stone, it seems either you are dealing with cold temperatures and slush ice, or consistent 30-40 mph winds. Last week we were dealing with a little of both but more ice than wind. This week it looks like things may shift the other way with warmer temps but a lot of wind, (especially in the afternoons when the air temp is a little warmer). Sunday is calling for gusts up to 70 mph! Next week looks like a better window with air temps in the 40’s and the wind settling a bit between 20-35 mph. Might be a good time to bust out the vice and get some flies tied inside rather than struggling with the wind or freezing your fingers. The spring creeks still offer the best shot at actively feeding fish. Scuds, sowbugs, midges, (especially midge larva), leeches, and small streamers are all worth a shot. Give us a call for a wind or ice report anytime. 406-222-7130.

Ice on the back side of 9th Street Island in town.
Ice at the 89 bridge. With plenty of ice on the boat ramps, better plan on wade fishing for now…
