Clarity Report 7/3

The mud that rolled through town is now way down low, (so don’t float down by Big Timber today).  Mid to lower Paradise Valley and the town section look good to go today.  Despite the lack of spikes on the Lamar and Gardiner CFS charts, we heard rumor of more mud coming from the Park….

Clarity Update July 2

Last night’s storms produced some chalky mud and lower visibility from Mallards down to 89. We expect it will move out pretty quickly, but as always feel free to give us a call to find out where the mud is! Try floating up higher or very low to beat the mud down stream. We…

The Fever Continues….

The Stonefly fever continues!  Most of the traffic has moved to the upper Madison however the upper Yellowstone still has big bugs even though some have already moved into the park.  The fish are still eating chubbies and salmonfly patterns between Gardiner and 26.  There are still plenty of caddis and sallies out as well….

Stonefly Fever!

The Yellowstone, Madison, and Missouri have all been fishing very well.  It’s strange that we have the opportunity to fish salmonflies on both the Yellowstone and the Madison at the same time, which is nice because it distributes the boat traffic a little better.  If you are chasing the big bugs on the Stone, think…

Salmonflies now thick on the Stone

The Yellowstone has been nothing short of spectacular the past few days.  At 7,100 CFS and dropping the clarity is great and the fish have been stuffing their faces with Salmonflies, Goldenstones, Yellow Sallies, Caddis, and PMD’s.  They are eating the dry but nymphs are still the most effective way to get fish in the…

Yellowstone Fishing Great

The Yellowstone has continued to be fishing great, and we expect it to get better from here. The clarity and flow have remained good, and it seems like the high winds have finally died down, but we could have a storm move through tonight. Fish on the Stone have been loving  nymphs, streamers, and big salmonfly…

Lake action – as good as it gets!

The rivers are fishing well but so are the local stillwater fisheries!  There is some excellent sight fishing for big fish with dry flies to be had right now on both public and private lakes.  Dragons, damsels, callibaetis, scuds, and leeches have all been working well.  Although private lakes require a guide and rod fee,…

Yellowstone Fishing Well

The Yellowstone has been fishing very well the past few days.  The has been some wind (and rain) to deal with, but the fish have been crushing nymphs, streamers, and even big salmonfly and goldenstone dries.  The epic “big bug” dry fly days are still to come, perhaps by this weekend or early next week….

Salmonfly Fever!

Salmonflies have been around Montana for a couple weeks now and will continue (on various rivers) for another month.  If you’ve fished during the salmonfly hatch then you know how epic it can be.  Seeing larger freestone fish looking up and eating easy-to-see dries is about as fun as fly fishing gets.  If you haven’t…
