Fun times on the Stone…

Clarity on the Stone is looking good and the graphs are all currently on the drop.   We’ve been experiencing some afternoon / evening rainstorms however these haven’t been too bad.  This upcoming week most nights are predicting  around 20% chance of rain, which doesn’t bring too much threat of mud.  Wednesday night looks a…

Hot, but still fishing well…

We heard a report today that it hailed hard on the Gardner River this afternoon so keep an eye on the graphs for both the Gardner and Lamar.  Mid-Valley down should be clear for sure as with only a 20% chance of rain tonight.  We’ve had mixed reports lately, but most of the guides we…

Stone Fishing Well

The Yellowstone has been fishing well the last few days.  Like clockwork, it seems as though everyday we’ve had some kind of afternoon thunderstorm so packing along a light raincoat is a good idea.  These afternoon storms have been quick however, (and knock on wood), haven’t been blowing out the river out.  Today there is…

Yellowstone back on

The Yellowstone fished well today, and although we have expected rain storms almost every afternoon it looks like we’ll be able to find windows of clear water this week.  Tomorrow we should have solid “green is good” water through from Carbella through town and below.  As always give us a call for the latest reports…

Madison and Yellowstone both Fishing well

With recent rain and the Yellowstone still being tiger striped with clear stretches and mug plugs we’ve been sending folks over to the Upper Madison.  Although the flows are low on the upper the fishing has been terrific, with both dries and smaller beadhead nymphs.  The Yellowstone has also been fishing very well with Chubby/rubby,…

Tiger Stripes on the Stone

We have another plug currently coming through Yankee Jim canyon, but there is a section of “green is good” water below it.  That green water is probably at Emigrant now (12:48PM).  Depending on the size of the next plug, tomorrow should be good to go up high, with that green is good section slightly below…

River Report

The Yellowstone has been fishing well, particularly in the mornings.  Get out early to beat the heat and look for rising fish in the shade.  These fish will be eating caddis, but any number of smaller #14-16 attractor dry fly patterns will do the trick.  A few of our favorites include stimulators, hot wing elk…

Salmonflies in Yellowstone National Park

Are the salmonflies still around?  The answer is YES, there’s still time to catch the fabled salmonfly hatch, however now it is within the park boarder.  With thousands of big bugs still in the Canyon section of the Yellowstone, (and even above the main falls) the dry fly fishing has been nothing short of epic….

Damsels and Callibaetis

Although it’s been hot in the afternoons, the fish have been really eating hard on local and private lakes lately.  Early AM has been a nymph game until the callibaetis and damsel hatches heat up.  The callibaetis have been starting mid morning, typically about 10:00AM and going to 1:00 or 2:00PM.  We’ve been seeing damsel…

Last call for big bugs!

If you are looking to float the Yellowstone and chase the salmonflies you’ll want to get out there soon – as in this weekend could be it… Yesterday we saw a few stragglers still hanging out in the willows below Carbella, but there were a lot more shucks than live bugs.  Most of the bugs…
