Lake fishing

With the river on and off, we’ve been fishing lakes quite a bit lately.  As always, the Spring is an excellent time to target large trout and your chance of hooking into something 24″ or better are pretty good on one of the local and private lakes we fish.  While you’ll miss the incredible dry…

Clarity Report

Water clarity has varied from 9 inches to 3 feet lately, depending on where (and when) you’re on the river.  Today town was dirtier than both up high and down low.  So far the Shield’s is clear but the CFS is coming up.  Give us a call anytime for a wind/clarity report.  406-222-7130.

Clarity Report

Yesterday it was 67° here in Livingston, with surprisingly no wind.  The next couple days should also be in the 60’s, which will likely be adding a tint of color to the river.  The Lamar has been coming up quickly, suggesting snow in the park has been melting.  Hopefully most of the low elevation snow…

Clear up high

We had a couple calls today asking about river clarity.  CFS at Corwin has been bumping a little due to recent low elevation snow melt.  The river remains fishable however, even way up high.  Midges are still the main food source but seeing how it’s Easter tomorrow, you might as well throw a bunny or…

Dry Fly Fishing Improving…

The Yellowstone has been hit or miss the last few days, with dries and nymphs being the bread and butter.  The midge fishing above town has been good during windless moments.  The active fish are holding in slow, deep tailouts, soft, slow edges, eddies, and near slow flowing riprap banks.  Fishing size #18 – 20…

Yellowstone Report

Looks like we have some weather moving in this week.  While we welcome the clouds, the drop in water temperature could affect the streamer bite negatively.  Also it looks like we’ll have some wind, (of course, that’s nothing new).  Still, now is a good time to go out and try for a big brown.  Black…

Wader Shootout Finished!

We apologize for our lack of recent fishing reports – we have been diligently working on our “Wader Shootout” which has finally been completed!  (Click the photo above if you’d like to check it out).  As for the fishing, the Yellowstone is starting to fish a little better, although the creeks have definitely been more…

DePuy’s Spring Creek

No wind and a day off are two things that never seem to link up in Livingston.  However when we checked the weather on Saturday morning it seemed as if all signs pointed to FISH!  The wind was basically not existent all day, and with decent cloud cover the decision to fish Depuy’s was easy….

From slick to stick…

Last summer I noticed a client of ours had a pair of Simms Guide Boots with a set of Patagonia Aluminum Bar screwed into them.  I remember thinking now that’s a good idea, especially for my old G4’s (which I had worn nearly bald).  This winter I had a little free time, so I decided…
